Home.pl started as the idea of three friends in Szczecin, Poland in 1997. Together they started building a domain registration and web site hosting business just as Polish business moved increasingly on-line and e-commerce became an increasingly important sales channel.
Capturing the digitialisation wave, by 2012, the company had grown to be a €18m business and the leader in Poland. With significant market growth still ahead, the founders agreed to bring in a professional manager to take the company to the next level, but wanted to gain some liquidity from their investment. V4C agreed to acquire a majority stake, using mezzanine financing for a portion of the transaction. The founders transited to the Supervisory Board, continuing to work with the company and benefiting from the further growth and upside of the business.
V4C and the founders exited the business in 2015 through the sale to the strategic investor at one of the highest valuation multiples seen in the sector globally at the time.
